Management of Take-all Patch of Creeping Bentgrass on Greens Constructed to USGA Specifications

چکیده
Rationale Take-all patch, caused by Gaeumannomyces graminis f. sp. avenae, is favored by alkaline soils. Because the calcareous sands used for putting greens in the Midwest have a high pH, bentgrass greens constructed with high sand content or to USGA specifications are especially prone to the disease. Previous research addressed take-all patch on established bentgrass greens and fairways with a history of the disease. The proposed research is designed to investigate options for avoiding or reducing the potential severity of take-all problems on newly constructed sand-based greens with both cultural and chemical disease control options.

In 1998, researchers at the University of Maryland discovered a new disease of creeping bentgrass caused by an unidentified species of Ophiosphaerella. Through morphological and molecular study, it was shown that the pathogen constituted a new species, Ophiosphaerella agrostis, and the disease was named bentgrass dead spot. Subsequently, O. agrostis was found in Texas and Florida causing dead s...

Natural organic fertilizers require microbial degradation for nitrogen (N) release, but their ability to promote rapid turfgrass establishment has not been well documented in newly constructed sand-based rootzones. This 2-year field study evaluated the influence of two general fertilizer and soil amendment programs for their effect on establishment and quality of three creeping bentgrass (Agros...
متن کاملInfluence of Humic Acid on Moisture Retention in Simulated Usga Putting Greens
Humic substances are routinely applied to creeping bentgrass putting greens during times of stress to improve turf health. Confounding effects of added nutrients and other ingredients make it difficult to separate the effects caused by the organic material from additional effects of the supplemental ingredients. Claims made in advertising and marketing of the effectiveness of humic substance pr...

ABSTRACT Dead spot (Ophiosphaerella agrostis) is a damaging disease of young </=6 years old) creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) golf greens. The objectives of this 3-year field study were to determine the peak periods of dead spot activity based on increasing patch diameter and pseudothecia development, and to determine where O. agrostis overwinters. Patch diameter generally increased at...
